Animals as Teachers

I had a frustrating moment yesterday, when I was trying to download an audio file so I could share it on my social media sites. Sounds simple, right? Not for me – my computer kept converting the mp3 to a different format that FaceBook, Twitter and Instagram did not understand.

I finally figured it out, but not without some hair pulling, gnashing of teeth and overwhelming frustration. My mind stopped working on the solution and immediately turned to its favorite target – my self-esteem.

Frustrated by my ineptitude, I sat down on the sofa to get calm. As I practiced deep breathing, I could feel my muscles relax and my heart rate slow. And just at that moment when I released myself (mentally, of course) from the stranglehold, my cat jumped on the sofa next to me.Housecat

He usually want to be rubbed and petted and is very insistent when he is in that mood. But this time, he was different. He just sat and stared at me. Green/yellow eyes focused all of their power…on me.

It was unsettling at first, but then I realized something important. My upset from earlier was totally unnecessary, trivial and without value. His eyes told me that I was loved, no matter what. And that I mattered – right here, right now. I somehow understood that this  moment of connection was all I needed.

Being in the moment was so much better than thrashing around in emotional turmoil.

This incident made me think of my guest on the Heart Dancing Radio Show tomorrow night, 01.29.15 at 9:00 p.m. cst. Kevin Rose is a licensed massage therapist and Diplomate-Certified Craniosacral Therapist. But he has another passion – check out his website at Kevin has discovered the link between animals and humans – and how we can learn to return to calm by the wisdom of animals!

Spend 5 Minutes and You will Know

A friend just shared this video with me called “Unbroken.” It doesn’t have anything to do with the movie by the same name, but I promise, it is well worth your time.

Please share – let’s raise everyone’s eyes up and encourage each other to keep moving, striving, doing and being.

How to Find Peace

You are a creator, whether you acknowledge it or not. What do you create? Your very own-customized-made-to-order version of reality.

But what if your view is filtered by stories from your past that cast a different meaning on the events before you? Would that create a conflict with another person who saw the same thing?

Of course! It happens all the time. Most people work through their differences but there may be lingering anger, frustration or regret that surfaces at a later time.

Wouldn’t it be nice to be at peace in every moment, knowing that what seems to be happening to you is actually the best thing possible? To be happy with yourself no matter what was going on in your life, because you know that you are worthy? That as you travel down your life’s path, to know that All is Good?

I knHD Adow a wonderful young woman who lives just that way – happy, peaceful and full of love. Jenny Grace will share her life philosophy on the Heart Dancing Radio Show, Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. cst.

Listen live at or on the TuneIn app on your tablet or smartphone.

Are You Ready to See & Break Free?

WhatyouSeeWe were over at friends watching the Dallas Cowboys v. Green Bay Packers game last Sunday. The now famous “catch-incomplete pass” generated a lot of discussion, especially since we are Cowboys fans. Despite the call by the official (let’s not go there), it reminded me that everyone sees our world through the filter of our stories.

We saw a completed pass (his elbow and knee hit the ground while he still had obvious possession of the ball). The referee saw something different.  Same event, different interpretations.

How does that apply to you? You may have stories from your past that hold you back from your best self. When the same or similar situation comes up again, if you tell yourself the old story, you will see the present moment though the lens of your past interpretation. And miss what is right in front you!

On Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 9:00 cst on the Heart Dancing Radio show, (listen at or on the Tunein app), I will share a simple process that can help you reframe stories from your past that are holding you back. It’s quick, easy to remember and works immediately!

My guest on the radio show this week knows all about breaking free of the emotional baggage you have been carrying around. Michelle Jeffrey is a motivational speaker, self-empowerment & personal development teacher, Integrative Coach, Infinite Possibilities Trainer, and thought leader for the next generation.

2015 is My Gutsy Year

Getting gutsy is all about stepping outside your comfort zone to reach your goals and live a life that makes you truly happy. This post is my entry for Jessica Lawlor’s Get Gutsy Essay Contest.

2015 is My Gutsy Year

I am an attorney. There – I admitted it. I practiced law for 23 years, then walked away and thought that I would be able to leave it behind, like an old outfit that no longer fit.

No such luck.  Because I am an attorney and always will be.

But that is not the end of my story. I can now declare with confidence and passion, that “I am an attorney who practices metaphysical techniques and shares what I have learned with others.”

That is the first time I have declared those two ways of being in the same sentence…please give me a minute so I can pause and take a deep breath. Now, it is integrated into my self.

Being an attorney means that I can’t stop myself from analyzing arguments for their logic, applying the rules or laws involved and deciding on an outcome. But I have learned to temper that analysis with something more powerful than man-made law.

When you lead first with love, you discover that your judgments dissolve and the criticism and advice you were about to share changes to encouragement and support. You begin to see your world differently, because you changed your perspective from law toGoal Love love. Connections and unity become the norm rather than the exception.

When your goal is love, love is all you see.

I have two dear friends who both practice family law from the love perspective. They zealously represent their clients in the courtroom, but they also share empowering metaphysical information and techniques that allow the person to move through the pain of divorce into acceptance and healing. Who would have ever thought that could work? But it does, and all of the people involved in each family drama are elevated because of this unique way to practice law.

I did not choose to stay in the legal profession. Instead, I remade myself from the inside out and now choose to step into my life with authenticity, courage and boldness. My books, blog, email newsletters and radio show are all based on the following:

My new mantra is Let. Love. Lead. And I love to dance from the heart.

Heart Dancing Radio

I have jumped off a cliff (that’s what it feels like) and agreed to host my very own, one hour radio show! The details are below but I wanted to share a little bit about my guest tonight.

Havalynn Russell is one of those people who makes you feel better as soon as you hear her voice or you are in the same room. She raises the positive energy of everyone around her. Her love of people and “in the moment” awareness of connection is the melody that plays in her life. Compassion and acceptance are two words that describe her, but words cannot capture her luminous spirit.

To help you see what I am describing, please take a minute and watch one of these short videos.

Please join me tonight as Havalynn share’s her journey from darkness to light. You will walk away feeling lighter, happier and maybe even dancing!

Heart Dancing – It’s the only way to live!

Which Way are You Going?

which wayIf you ever feel that you are meeting yourself “coming and going” then this photograph will surely resonate with you! I know that it is time to check in with my heart when this feeling threatens to overwhelm me. Deep breathing usually takes me to that place where my anxiety calms down and I can hear the music of my heart, instead of the messages from my mind.

That is when I know that I can Let. Love Lead.

What about you? Are you coming, going, or are you centered and peaceful?
